Gerakan di bidang akonomi alternatif di AS sudah sejak lama hidupnya marak di negara Paman Sam itu. Salah satunya adalah alternatif terhadap "globalisasi ekonomi" dengan menampil wacana maupun praktik yang "lokalisasi ekonomi" dan salah satunya  adalah EBASE (The East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy), yang tampaknya sejalan dengan kepentingan Indonsia membangun daerah-daerah kit sebagai bagian dari kesempatan yang dibukakan oleh Otonomi Daerah.
