As you may know, I support Bumi Sehat www.bumisehatbali.org/ in Ubud. It's a birth centre where anyone can go. If you can afford to pay then it's one third the price of a hospital birth. If you are too poor and cannot afford to pay then of course you don't pay. If you give birth in a hospital in Indonesia and can't pay the bill then you cannot take the baby until you pay the bill and until then, you are only allowed in the hospital twice a day to feed and change the baby! If anyone is going to Bali in the future I urge you to visit Bumi Sehat in Ubud to see the wonderful work that they do, you will leave feeling very humble and your heart will sing to see the work that Robin Lim and her team at Bumi are doing on a daily basis.
Robin Lim who runs Bumi Sehat has been nominated as a CNN Hero for 2011, we will know later in the year if she has won the title. Bumi Sehat believes in gentle births and support for the families. The placenta is left attached to the baby for 3 hours after the birth so that the baby can receive all the stem cells etc., and they surround the placenta with frangipani flowers! how wonderful is that! what a way to start life!!
Just this week a lady came to Bumi Sehat who was very upset, in labour and very anxious because she was told that she had to have a ceaserian which would cost sooooo much in Indonesia. Later that day she gave birth without any problems naturally.
I hope that you will help the dream below become reality. There are many other dreams that you may want to vote for. You can vote every day if you wish.
I hope that my friends in Bali will forward this to their friends so we can 'Make a Difference' and a young woman in Bali can be funded to train to be a midwife.
